Audi R8 Spyder

The concept of the R8 Spyder places the emphasis on driving pleasure and performance. The blend of sculptural vehicle architecture with an air of sporty dominance and innovative technology makes the Spyder a unique piece of automotive engineering with power and emotion. In short, a genuine Audi.

The latest generation of the Audi Space Frame® (ASF) lowers the overall weight of the Audi R8 Spyder. Carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) has also been employed, namely in the side sections and bodywork, as well as in the hood compartment cover and the interior. This means high levels of safety, enhanced performance and improved handling.

The exterior: powerful, muscular and striking
The Audi R8 Spyder echoes the design expression of classic racing cars. The tail looks powerful and muscular whether the hood’s up or down. A steeply raked front windscreen frame made from aluminium further emphasises the dynamic lines while giving the vehicle an even more athletic appearance.

The single-frame grille with vertical and horizontal chrome bars instantly conveys the vehicle’s sense of sporting credentials. Air inlets with long, moulded lines: when viewed in profile there is an electrifying air about the Audi R8 Spyder. The headlights with all-LED technology form a further visual highlight. The first of their kind for a sports car, they are capable of producing lighting that closely resembles daylight.
The hood: classic and fully automatic
A true soft-top roof with elongated fins emphasises the clearly structured lines of the Audi R8 Spyder. It can be opened and closed fully automatically with a single touch of a button – even when moving at speeds of up to 31mph. It takes just 19 seconds for the Audi R8 Spyder’s hood to fully open. To add to the purity of the pleasure, the rear window can be lowered leaving you to enjoy the roar of the ten cylinders even when the hood is closed.
The interior: supremacy in every detail
The interior of the Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro is a picture of sportiness and functionality, right down to the smallest detail. The heated, electrically retractable rear window doubles as a wind deflector, with an additional wind deflector also being provided as standard.

The centre console is raised, simplifying operation of the joystick control for the optional R tronic® transmission. The Bang & Olufsen Sound System guarantees an exceptional listening experience whether the hood is up or down.

A world first: Audi is the first sports car manufacturer to integrate microphones into the driver and passenger seat belts for the use with the standard Bluetooth mobile phone interface. Three microphones each for driver and passenger maintain a short speaking distance at all times and significantly enhance voice quality – even with the hood down.

High engine speeds, outstanding responsiveness and phenomenal power combined with a lightweight, compact construction – the Audi R8 Spyder’s ten-cylinder mid-mounted engine redefines standards. The engine’s rich sound underlines the performance capabilities of the 5.2 FSI quattro in formidable fashion. 525PS (386 KW) catapults the Audi R8 Spyder to 62 mph in just 4.1 seconds. The 124 mph mark is passed after 12.7 seconds. Its breathtaking top speed is not reached until 194 mph.

Innovative high-revving concept (HRC)
What’s the quickest way to express high performance? High-revving concept. Lightning-fast responsiveness. Incomparable agility. The wide engine speed range, up to 8,700 rpm, is available in fractions of a second. The beefy torque curve extending up to 530 Nm pushes the Audi R8 Spyder inexorably forward.

The ideal combination of power and technology.
Thanks to the latest four-valve FSI® technology, the Audi R8 Spyder squeezes more power out of every drop of petrol. The lightweight aluminium construction together with carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic components lowers the overall weight, while dry-sump lubrication gives the car a low centre of gravity and permits powerful lateral acceleration.
